Teenager arrested on Hoe and weapon seized

An 18-year-old was arrested on Plymouth Hoe this morning (Monday) and police located and seized what appeared to be a very large bladed weapon.

Two officers were seen on foot patrol near to the Belvedere terrace at around 11am carrying out a "stop and search".

Devon and Cornwall Police later confirmed: "An 18-year-old man from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife in a public place. He remains in police custody."

One worried eyewitness told The Beagle the weapon could have been 40cm long.

"It's worrying this sort of thing happens in the middle of the morning as people are out enjoying the sunshine," they said.

"Well done and thanks to the police."
