Plymouth votes 'No' to elected mayor proposal

Plymouth has decided to keep its current system of council leadership.
In a referendum that saw fewer than 20% of the city’s residents turn out and vote:
19,840 voted for a leader who is an elected councillor, chosen by a vote of the other councillors
18,044 voted for a mayor who is elected by voters
The city will continue to be run by a leader chosen by elected councillors rather than introducing a directly elected mayor.
Turnout was 19.11 percent.
