Plans submitted to knock down the former Register Office

The owners of the former Register Office in Lockyer Street are seeking permission to demolish it, clear and flatten the site, and erect security fencing.

They concede in their application to Plymouth Council what we all know: that the vacant building is "subject to ongoing unauthorised access, anti-social behaviour and repeated security interventions."

The proposal by Hoe Park Heights Ltd follows the rejection of their ambitious plans to redevelop the site with a five-storey block of 50 apartments. It seeks consent solely for demolition and site clearance "in response to current site management and safety concerns."

Demolition is proposed to remove the vacant and deteriorating structure. Following demolition, the site will remain secured and maintained pending future redevelopment proposals, the site owners say.

Comments on the application ref 26/00905/FUL, should be submitted to PCC no later than August 6.
