Oh dear - a very wet visit for luxury cruise ship passengers

By The Captain
I’m sure we all welcome cruise ships to our port – but why oh why couldn’t the Silver Spirit have been here yesterday, when the sun was shining?
As those of you who ventured out this morning will have seen, many of Plymouth streets were awash as the rain, temporarily, overwhelmed the roadside drains.
Let’s hope that the passengers from this 5-star ship who came ashore had somewhere dry to visit. That said, it is very good to see ABP’s newly refitted port being utilised by a cruise ship – a boat trip inshore from at anchor in The Sound would not have been that tempting.
Perhaps, one day, the cruise terminal, mooted for the eastern side of Millbay, will be built.
Silver Spirit is a 36000-ton ship with a crew of 411. She is a ‘suite-only’ cruise ship and can carry up to 608 passengers in considerable luxury.
Looking at her upcoming cruises to Scandinavian ports, you will have to pay between £500 and £2000 per night for the pleasure of being onboard. Mind you, for this you get your own butler, several gourmet restaurants, door-to-door travel from home and flights to join the ship.
