Nice afternoon for a drive around The Hoe!

Mayhem and a near calamity this week when a visiting motorist fell foul of the 4pm parking barrier closing the Hoe’s disable parking bays.

The panicked driver set off around the paths of the park to find an alternate exit - trundling towards the Crowne Plaza then doing a three-point-turn and returning to the Naval Monument as bemused families watched on.

An eyewitness told The Beagle: “The driver was being careful but this was clearly quite dangerous.”

Signs advise car drivers to turn on their hazard lights when on the prom.

In a new development it appears that workers or visitors to The Lido are being given permits to allow them to park on the Hoe alongside disabled motorists - presumably to avoid the hike in street parking prices for the rest of us!

The Beagle is asking PCC for further information.
