New twist in Devon Block Management saga
A notice has been filed to strike off the property management company that used to manage The Azure apartments on Plymouth Hoe.
An update on the Companies House website lists a formal “first Gazette notice for the compulsory strike-off” of Devon Block Management (DBM).
Such a strike-off notice can be issued if that company has not filed certain annual documents, such as a confirmation statement or accounts, or if it has ignored contact by Companies House. It is regarded as the first step towards dissolving a company. The Gazette notice enables anyone wishing to challenge the closure to object to the proposed striking off - including the company itself.
The move comes days after DBM lost a county court case in a dispute with residents at Westbury Court in Devonport. DB was ordered to pay them £45,000 - money the residents said was theirs and that had been withheld after they switched to a different management company.
With echoes of the Westbury Court case, residents in The Azure are fighting for the return of their contingency fund and for sight of their bank statements. They have noted the county court case “with interest” and say they are assessing their position.
Before a company is forcibly struck off, a statutory process must be followed.
According to UK Liquidators, a first Gazette notice advises the public, suppliers, creditors, banks, and other interested parties, that a company is at risk of being closed down.
DBM is based at Behan House in Stonehouse Street, and is run by directors Sean Nicholson and Elaine Nicholson. It was incorporated in 2008 and its accounts are currently overdue, according to Companies House. They should have been filed by August 16, 2025.
The Beagle contacted Mr Nicolson and Devon Block Management today asking for comment. So far there has been no response.
