Smeaton’s Tower on Plymouth Hoe was lit gold in celebration of the England Lionesses’ dramatic penalty shootout victory over Spain in the UEFA Women's Euro final, writes GP.

Councillor Sue Dann, Plymouth City Council's Cabinet Member for Sport and Leisure said of the nail-biting win: “England is proud. Plymouth is proud. And we celebrate not just a win — but a future that’s brighter, bolder, and more equal than ever before.”

Councillor Jemima Laing (Stoke Ward) wrote on the One Plymouth Facebook page that it was: “A phenomenal win - so inspiring!”

After clawing back from a goal down, England took the game all the way to penalties before finally clinching victory with a Chloe Kelly spot kick. Goalkeeping star Hannah Hampton saved twice in what is being hailed as a sensational performance.

The win marked the second consecutive UEFA Women's EURO title for the Lionesses.
