Former Plymouth MP and Lady Mayoress Nancy Astor's Cartier tiara is for sale

Society magazine Tatler is asking whether the imminent sale of Nancy Astor’s tiara is the high society sale of the year?
Only they know the answer. However what is clear is that Cartier turquoise and diamond item is turning heads.
The American-born Viscountess made history when she was elected as an MP in Plymouth Sutton and became the first woman to take a seat in the House of Commons in November 1919.
She represented the Plymouth constituency for 25 years. She was also Lady Mayoress of Plymouth during the Blitz. And of course, a statue of her stands proudly on The Hoe (albeit currently fenced off).
Now her Cartier turquoise and diamond tiara is being auctioned by Bonhams, with an estimated price of £250,000 - £300,000.
Lady Astor notably wore the tiara to the premiere of City Lights at the Dominion Theatre in London in 1931.
Tatler’s Isaac Bickerstaff says, that with its distinctive turquoise plumes, leaves and scrolls, inspired by Egyptian, Indian and Persian motifs, “the Astor tiara is one of Cartier’s most influential designs”
The sale in London is on June 5.
