Firkin pub plan

A planning enquiry has been submitted asking for guidance on turning the Grade 2* listed Famous Firkin pub in Stonehouse into residential accommodation.
The pub, in Adelaide Place, forms part of a planned mid-19th-century terrace designed by renowned architect and planner John Foulston and is in a conservation area.
The proposal involves subdividing the existing public house into two separate two-storey two-bedroom dwellings. Interior works will be assessed for historical significance, and any noteworthy features will be
preserved where feasible. No off-street parking is proposed as part of the development.
The Firkin has been closed for approximately two years, but is listed on Plymouth Council’s “Assets of Community Value” register, and despite no objections to the preliminary enquiry, the council planning team makes clear “justification for the pub’s loss would need to be provided” in a full planning application in due course.
